Food Contact Materials (FCM)
Testing and analysis of food contact materials, with a focus on safety, migration, and conformity
Materials and articles for food contact can consist of various materials, such as plastic, cardboard, metals, ink, glue, and much more. It concerns not exclusively packaging, but also a wide range of materials and articles that come into contact with foodstuffs between harvest, production, and consumption, such as kitchen utensils or food processing equipment. Food contact materials must comply with EU rules regarding food contact safety and with technical expectations regarding the optimization of the shelf life of our foodstuffs. The FCM department of IBE-BVI provides analytical services and advice to demonstrate that materials in contact with foodstuffs comply with the EU regulation and characterization tests, such as gas permeability through a material.
