About us
Artevelde University of Applied Sciences' practical research on Communication, Media and Design focuses on organisations and professionals who anticipate the challenges in the digital society through innovation and development. We learn, research and develop together with our partners, through user research, technology and trend analysis, design and prototyping. We put thought leadership around sustainable packaging, human-centered design with AI, disinformation and influencer marketing first. In the research programme sustainable packaging and smart retail, we start from the great potential for (technological) innovation in retail, from packaging to the shopping environment itself. We also want to make innovation accessible to smaller chains, brands and independent stores.
Our focus is on two innovation domains: 1. ecology, sustainability, circularity 2. making the shopping experience smarter through the use of technology.
In our Prototyping Lab, we make technological innovations feasible for smaller players and independent stores through development, prototyping, demonstration.

In the Circular & Innovative Design research line , we are developing a smart, functional and circular display based on insights from design research with stakeholders
In the research line Displays as a marketing strategy, we map out consumer experiences and expectations and test the impact of smart displays on brand experience, purchase intention and shopping experience of consumers.

For large-scale production, you can take this to a manufacturer capable of bringing the packaging to market; for single-unit production, we can handle it in our Packlab.
