“We’d rather not throw things away”: From everlasting greenery to reusable shipping boxes

“We’d rather not throw things away”: From everlasting greenery to reusable shipping boxes

A stylish interior and conscious business practices: at PrettyPlants, these two go hand in hand. The webshop for high-quality artificial plants and flowers is continuously taking steps towards a more sustainable future. PrettyPlants strives for fully carbon-neutral operations. For instance, they collaborate with Regreener to actively offset their impact through reforestation projects. Additionally, PrettyPlants understands that people may want something different in their homes over time, but good plants do not need to become unnecessary waste. That is why they are building their own exchange platform to give their products a second life. A logical step towards packaging. At PrettyPlants, reducing single-use does not stop at the product. While upcoming European packaging legislation (PPWR) aims for less packaging waste, the pilot with a reusable shipping box aligns seamlessly with this. Because repackaging in e-commerce requires a new way of working, Topa – from its own packaging development department – has developed a robust, custom-made box. But a product and packaging are nothing without a functioning return system. That is where BOXO comes into play. As a facilitator of reverse logistics, BOXO provides the software for webshops, manages the platform for the packaging chain, and handles the physical return flow via its network of drop-off points. The financial model works just like with a cola bottle: via a deposit system. The shared goal of this supply chain collaboration? Less waste, closed logistics flows, and pragmatic preparation for European packaging legislation (PPWR).
